Social studies teacher makes history after educating for 53 years

  Paul Durietz has made history with his record-breaking career.  The 76-year-old educator from Gurnee, Illinois, USA, who has been teaching for 53 years, broke the record for the longest career as a social studies teacher on 1 September. paul-durietz-faculty-headshot.jpg Paul has been teaching at Woodland Middle School, District #50 since 1 September 1970. He says his interest in history comes from his parents.  His father, Alfred Durietz, fought in the Battle of the Bulge during World War II, where he received a Purple Heart.  “As a young boy, my father sparked my interest in history by telling me his involvement in the war by going into German bunkers and finding helmets, luger pistols, and uniforms,” said Paul.  My mother, Opal Pembroke Durietz, is related to the Earl of Pembroke of England, which piqued my interest in studying the Middle Ages. BREAKING: NECO releases 2023 SSCE results as 93 schools get sanctioned

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has on Tuesday announced the release of its 2023 Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) results, with at 93 schools expected to face sanctions. This was made known in a statement by NECO's registrar Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi. 1,196,985 candidates representing 616,398 Males and 580,587 females registered for the exam. Professor Wushishi said:  I want to "formally declare that the 2023 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal results are hereby released to the public.  By this release, candidates can now access their results on NECO website: neco.gov.ng, using their examination registration numbers. The highlights are as follows: Number of candidates registered for the examination is 1,205,888, representing 621,084 males and 584,804 Females. BREAKING: 2023 Nobel Prize awarded to three scientists for developing quantum dots

  The 2023 Nobel Prize in chemistry has been awarded to a trio of scientists who worked to discover and develop quantum dots – nanoparticles so small that their size determines their properties. The prize was won by Moungi Bawendi, Louis Brus and Alexei Ekimov, the committee announced in Stockholm on Wednesday. Quantum dots – electronic crystals – are small enough to operate in the fascinating realm of physics called quantum mechanics, and are used in LED lights and TV screens, as well as by surgeons when removing cancer tissue. But the committee inadvertently published the names of the three scientists hours before the official announcement. Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet published a copy of an email it said was from the academy, Reuters reported. BREAKING: Katsina university students kidnapped at gunpoint

  Some armed men suspected to be bandits have invaded the student dormitories of the Federal University in Dutsinma (FUDMA), Katsina State, abducting five female students. According to Daily Trust, the incident happened in the early hours of Wednesday, at the students’ off-campus dormitories behind Mariamoh Ajiri school, close to Wednesday Market in Dutsinma. “Five of them (the students) were kidnapped, they are from Kano and Nasarawa states and two of them are final year students,” one of the students at the university told our reporter on the phone. As of the time of filing this report, there was no information concerning the situation of the victims as their captors had yet to contact their families.   Police authorities in Lagos State have taken Afrobeats star Naira Marley into custody. “Azeez Fashola aka Naira Marley has been taken into custody for interrogation and other investigation activities,” Lagos police command spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin said late Tuesday. Naira Marley is expected to assist the police in their investigation into the demise of his former signee Ilerioluwa Aloba better known as MohBad. While the singer has been accused of having a hand in Mohbad’s death, he vowed to clear his name and had before the police’s statement confirmed his arrival in Nigeria to help the probe into his former signee’s demise. “I’d like to share that I’ve just arrived back in Lagos, Nigeria to assist the authorities with the ongoing investigation,” he tweeted on Tuesday. “It’s important I do my part for Imole. Jerome Boateng actions on signing for Bayern Munich revealed: Plettenberg

Jerome Boateng will not sign a contract today with Bayern Munich, according to Florian Plettenberg. More talks and negotiations will follow as reported.  However, the bosses are still willing to offer him a short-term contract.  Bosses are aware that there are critics. But they are convinced that the 35 year-old will strengthen the squad. Boateng won’t travel with the team to Copenhagen. In August 2018 there was a secret meeting between Bayern's head coach, Thomas Tuchel and Boateng in Munich. He wanted to bring him to PSG at that time.  The first parts of the medical have already been completed. He is supposed to train with the team at Säbener Straße on Sunday as first, according to Philip Kessler. He is also supposed to train with the first team in the next few days Boateng has kept himself fit and injury-free in the past weeks. It is not yet confirmed whether Boateng will receive a six-month contract or sign until the end of the season.

BREAKING: Six dead after fire at nightclub in Murcia, Spain

At least six people were killed and four injured in a fire that broke out early on Sunday morning at a nightclub in Murcia, Spain, the city council said. The injured are two women, aged 22 and 25, and two men, aged 41 and 45, who were all taken to the hospital due to smoke inhalation, the Murcia emergency services website said. “Worried and dismayed by the news coming from there (Murcia). The emergency services continue working,” the President of the Murcia region posted on X, previously known as Twitter. At the time of the incident, emergency services were dispatched, with local firefighters requesting the intervention of the helicopter from the General Directorate of Security and Emergencies, the emergency services said, adding later that ground resources were sufficient to put out the fire. “The General Director of Security and Emergencies, Ricardo Villalba, is on-site coordinating with the Murcia City Council the necessary means to manage this tragedy,” the emergency services said....

BREAKING: US court orders Chicago State University to release Tinubu’s credentials

The United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois has ordered Chicago State University to release the credentials of President Bola Tinubu . In a memorandum opinion and order issued by Nancy Maldonado, the judge, the court overruled Tinubu’s objections to the application filed by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election, seeking the release of the president’s record with the university. …more to follow
