UNIBEN suspends students union activities indefinitely

 The management of the University of Benin, Edo State, has suspended the students’ union government of the institution indefinitely. In a letter to the university’s community, made available to journalists on Tuesday in Benin City, the university’s Registrar, Ademola Bobola, announced the decision on the union. The letter read, “After due consideration of the report by the management, the vice chancellor has approved the suspension of the university’s students union. The suspension which is indefinite, takes immediate effect, that is, from Monday, April 29, 2024. Accordingly, all officers of the students’ union are to hand over all property of the union in their possession to the Dean, Students’ Affairs, not later 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. “In the interim, a caretaker committee composed of representatives of faculties, schools and institutes has been approved to coordinate students’ activities during the period of suspension. 1.8 million candidates set to sit 2024 WASSCE – WAEC

The West African Examinations Council, Nigeria, has stated that a total of 1,814,344 candidates from 22,229 schools have registered for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination for school candidates. Speaking on Monday at the WAEC Lagos Office, the Head of Nigeria Office, Dr. Amos Dangut, said out of this number, 902,328 were males, while 912,016 were females. He stated, “A total of 1,814,344 candidates from 22,229 schools have registered for the examination. Out of this number, 902,328 are males, amounting to 49.73 per cent, while 912,016 are females, which is 50.27 per cent of the total candidature. The statistics show a further increase in the number of females and males respectively, compared to last year. 2024 UTME: 1.4M candidates score below 200, out of 1.8m

Seventy-seven per cent of the 1,842,464 candidates whose 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination results were released by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board on Monday scored less than 200. Giving a breakdown of the results of the 1,842,464 candidates released, the Board’s Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede noted that, “8,401 candidates scored 300 and above; 77,070 scored 250 and above; 439,974 scored 200 and above while 1,402,490 scored below 200.” The Board is expected to announce the minimum benchmark for the 2024/2025 academic session admissions during its policy meeting to be held at a later date. JUST IN: JAMB releases 2024 UTME results, 8,401 score 300 and above

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results.  JAMB’s Registrar Ishaq Oloyede announced the release of the UTME results in a press conference held at the board’s headquarters in Bwari on the outskirts of Abuja. According to Oloyede, over 1.94 million candidates registered and sat for the examination in 118 towns and over 700 centres across the country. The examination which began on Friday the 19th of April ended on Monday the 29th of April. Out of the 1,989,668 registered candidates, 80, 810 were absent. A total of 1, 904, 189 sat the UTME within the six days of the examination. “Out of the 1,842,464 released results, a paltry 0.4% scored above 300 while 24% scored 50% (200/400) and above,” the JAMB chief said. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has concluded plan to release the results of the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, is to address a press conference in Abuja, on Monday, on the release of the results and other things around it. However, there are indications that results that would be released on Monday are, perhaps, for the candidates that participated in the UTME in the first few days, while others would be released after “due diligence” is completed. JAMB results: 1.94 million candidates await results of 2024 UTME

No fewer than 1.94 million candidates are currently awaiting the release of the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) organised by the  Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB). The Registrar, Prof Ishaq Oloyede confirmed the number of all candidates to be 1.94 million. Oloyede said this on Wednesday in Kaduna, while inspecting Computer Based Test (CBT) centres in the state amidst the ongoing JAMB examinations. He added that at the end of the examination today, there would be less than 100,000 candidates remaining in Lagos, Benue and other states in the country. Oloyede explained that the pace at which JAMB cleared candida tes and captured biometrics made the exercise faster.
