LASU-ACEITSE rewards students with entrepreneurial grant awards

Gideon Adonai   The Lagos State University Africa Centre of Excellence for Innovative and Transformative STEM Education (LASU-ACEITSE) has rewarded three of its students with Entrepreneurial Grant Awards, with each applicant smiling home with a cheque of Two Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira (₦2.5 million). The total Grant given to the three winners is Seven Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira (₦7.5) Million. The event took place at the Centre's Conference Hall, Friday, 26th July, 2024, main campus, Ojo, Lagos. UNILORIN wins JAMB ₦500m Merit Award

by Gideon Toluwalope Adonai The University of Ilorin has emerged top on the list of winners of the 4th edition of the National Tertiary Admissions Performance-Merit Awards (NATAP-M Awards) for the 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 academic sessions. Orangesprings Blog reports that the award was instituted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). For the feat, the first of its kind to be won by any university, the University bagged a princely sum of ₦500 million. The winners were announced in Abuja last Thursday (July 18, 2024) by the Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, during the 2024 Policy Meeting on Admissions into Tertiary Institutions organised by the Board. JAMB announces 140 as minimum cut off mark for university admission , polytechnic stands at 100

Heads of higher institutions of learning, on Thursday, pegged the minimum benchmark for admissions for tertiary institutions at 140 for universities, 100 for polytechnics and colleges of education. They took the position at the 2024 policy meeting organised by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board in Abuja. JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, explained that there was nothing like a cut-off mark but only the minimum tolerable score out of the total mark of 400 in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination. Each university forwarded its benchmark scores to JAMB ahead of the Thursday policy meeting. Oloyede said while institutions had the liberty to admit students based on the minimum scores they submit to JAMB, no institution was allowed to admit any candidate with a score below 140. This benchmark was endorsed by all stakeholders at the 2024 policy meeting. “The minimum benchmark approved for universities is 140; 100 for polytechnics and colleges of education,” Oloyede said....

Over 62,000 UTME candidates to battle for LASU admissions as varsity tops most subscribed chart

LASU now stands out as the second most subscribed university in Nigeria.  This is based on the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination Application Statistics by Institutions released by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board on Wednesday, 17th July 2024. According to the figures released by JAMB, 62, 601 candidates chose LASU as first choice institution to place the university second just behind the University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Kwara State, with 64,143 candidates.  LASU's latest position is an improvement on the 2023 statistics where the university was ranked third with over 55,000 applicants. It is imperative to note that prior to the year 2023, LASU had never featured in the list of the top 10 most subscribed universities in Nigeria. The Advisory Board for The Nigeria Prize for Literature has unveiled the long list of 11 books competing for the 2024 prize, selected from a total of 163 entries. WAEC's GCE registrations commence for 2024 second series

By Gideon Adonai The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has commenced registration for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates, second series, commonly called GCE. Interested candidates can now register online for the November December diet. Candidates are advised to carefully read the registration guidelines and requirements before proceeding to register. Candidates can register online and make payments at any of the designated banks or accredited agents. They can also explore cashless payment channels to procure registration tokens with credit/debit cards. Candidates with special needs are also required to register online and indicate their impairments. Walk-in candidates will be accommodated, but they must register at least 24 hours before the scheduled examination time. WAEC GCE 2nd Series 2024 examination will be computer-based.

UNILORIN announces POST UTME dates for 2024/2025 admission exercise, 2023/24 admissions

This is according to a communique released Wednesday and obtained by Orangesprings Blog. The University Management also disclosed that the 2023/2024 admission exercise is currently in progress. The management added that the process for the 2024/2025 exercise will commence after the JAMB Policy Meeting, which is scheduled to take place on Thursday, July 18, 2024, in Abuja.

FUTA gets full accreditation for 18 academic programmes [ Full List]

By Gideon Adonai The National Universities Commission (NUC) has given full accreditation status to eighteen programmes it assessed at the Federal University of Technology Akure, FUTA.  The result is hinged on the accreditation exercise carried out by the Commission between October and November 2023. The accreditation is valid for five years commencing from the 2023/2024 academic session in accordance with the Core Curriculum Minimum Academic Standard (CCMAS). This is according to a communique released on Monday evening and sent to Orangesprings Blog. According to the communique, the commencement of the 2024/2025 Indigeneship Verification Exercise for applicants of Lagos State origin will hold for a duration of four weeks from Monday, 8th July to Thursday, 1st August 2024, with the registration portal set to open on Monday, 1st July 2024. The Vice Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, and other members of management held a meeting with members of the Independent Indigene Verification Committee (IIVC) to this effect.
