LASU admissions not for sale; varsity warns parents, racketeers

Gideon Toluwalope Adonai   The Lagos State University, (LASU) Ojo, has warned the general public and parents who are offering cash to racketeers to work admission to their favour that its admission is not for sale! The statement was issued while refuting the claims of admission racketeering in the ongoing 2025/2026 admission process. The university clarified that, despite receiving an unprecedented number of applications this academic session, only 20% of the over 70,000 applicants will be offered admission. There have been claims suggesting that LASU is favouring the highest bidders for admission, which the university administration has firmly rejected. LASU: Academic activities to immediately resume as varsity gets gubernatorial lifeline

Gideon Adonai  Academic activities at the nation's most preferred university, Lagos State University, (LASU), Ojo and its other campuses are set to resume following breakthroughs in talks with union heads by top authorities of the Lagos governor's office. Following this development, confirmed by an insider in LASU, the Senate of the fastest growing university in terms of applicants' choices and latest infrastructure,  has approved the resumption of academic and social activities with effect from Wednesday, 13th August 2025. The said meeting was held on Monday, 11th August 2025. Thomas-Onashile, Oluwayemisi A. LASU Senate asks students to vacate hostels amid strike talks with staff unions

Gideon Adonai  The Lagos State University Senate has at its virtual meeting held on Saturday, 2nd August 2025 asked its students to vacate hostels while concerned authorities broker terms with heads of staff unions. The Senate brought academic activities including second semester examination of 2024/25 session to a halt in a bid to resolve looming strike actions threatened by Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Staff Unions comprising the LASU Chapters of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) The aforementioned unions had on Thursday, 31st July 2025 issued commencement of a strike action described as indefinite in its July 31st, stating that the said strike would be on till the unions' demands are met. LASU secures NUC's endorsement for two new courses

The Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, has been granted approval by the National Universities Commission (NUC) to establish two new full-time undergraduate programmes. The two new courses, according to a Friday statement issued by the Deputy Registrar/Coordinator will effective from the 2025/2026 academic session. The programmes are: . B.A. Ed. Music Education; and . B.Ed. Social Studies and Civic Education. A CIPPR, LASU, top official, Thomas-Onashile Oluwayemi made it known. According to her, the approval was conveyed in a letter dated 17th July 2025, signed by the Acting Director of Academic Planning, Mr Abubakar M. Girei, on behalf of the Executive Secretary, NUC followed a recent resource verification visit to the University by panels of experts tasked with assessing the availability of human and material resources for the proposed programmes. Trump administration threatens new Harvard cuts over Jewish rights

  The Trump administration on Monday accused Harvard of violating the civil rights of its Jewish and Israeli students and threatened to cut off all federal funding if the university does not take urgent action. Harvard has been at the forefront of Donald Trump's campaign against top US universities after it defied his calls to submit to oversight of its curriculum, staffing, student recruitment and "viewpoint diversity." Trump and his allies claim that Harvard and other prestigious universities are unaccountable bastions of liberal, anti-conservative bias and anti-Semitism. LASU makes U-turn, says UTME/DE admission application for 2025/26 session released in error

The Lagos State University, (LASU) has announced withdrawn its bulletin published Tuesday where it stated that applications were open to suitably qualified candidates in the 2025/2026 Admission Screening Exercise (Regular Students), for candidates seeking admission via UTME (100 level) and DIRECT Entry. LASU's spokesman Mr Olaniyi Jeariogbe, deleted the earlier released Bulletin. A post seen by our correspondent clarified that the bulletin was released in error. Details later
