Prof Falaiye elected UNILAG DVC, Management Services

Gideon Adonai Professor Muyiwa Falaiye has emerged the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Management Services of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), following his election by the Senate. A former Dean of the Faculty of Arts, UNILAG, Prof. Falaiye is the current Director, Institute of African and Diaspora Studies, UNILAG (IADS-UNILAG), and Chairman of UNILAG Housing Committee. He was elected via an electronic voting process with 210 out of 252 (83%) votes at the Statutory Meeting of Senate held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025. His appointment, when ratified by the University Governing Council, is for a period of two (2) years. Prof Muyiwa Falaiye, FNAL, is a Professor of African Philosophy/Studies. His research interests include African Studies, Political Philosophy, Philosophical Sagacity and Philosophy of Development.

How over 31,000 students fail 2024 WASSCE in Lagos despite heavy funding of ₦1.5bn by govt

The Lagos State Government has revealed that 31,596 students from public secondary schools failed the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), sparking concerns over the state of education in Nigeria’s commercial capital. This disclosure was made during the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing on Thursday in Alausa, Ikeja, where the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Alli-Balogun, presented the education sector’s scorecard under the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat. Alli-Balogun stated that the government had spent a total of ₦1,577,794,000 to cover examination fees for 58,188 bona fide students under its free education initiative. LASU Convocation: How JAMB pushed me from frustration to becoming overall best graduand

[Gideon Adonai, Lagos] Nwosu Isioma Sybil, the Overall Best Graduand at the ongoing 28th Convocation Ceremonies of the Lagos State University has disclosed that the Joint Admission and Matriculation (JAMB), it was who pushed her from her comfort zone, into the furnace of frustration and then into the constellation of LASU stars, emerging the overall best graduating student with a total CGPA of 4.93 in a 5.00 scale. In her speech on Wednesday,  disclosed that her score at the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in the year 2019 was not unfavourable, despite being her high school's valedictorian. Narrating her journey of success, and who she had to retake the UTME, Isioma said: "it was a bitter pill to swallow." Gideon Adonai  NWOSU ISIOMA SYBIL of the Biochemistry Department with a CGPA of 4.93 (First Class Honours) has emerged the overall best graduating student at the ongoing Lagos State University Convocation Ceremonies. The number of fresh graduands to bag the baccalaureate have been pegged to 8,711 as 192 emerge First Class. It was gathered that a total of 11, 917 will be graduating in the 2023/2024 Academic Session, among which 8,711 students are graduating with first degree programmes from the University. 192 students made the First Class honours and 17 with Unclassified(MBBS/BDS) Degrees. 3076 graduated with Second Class Upper Division, 4397 with Second Class Lower Division, 990 with Third Class and 39 with a pass. 4.
