Nwosu Isioma emerges overall best as 8, 711 bag bachelor's at LASU's convocation ceremonies

NWOSU ISIOMA SYBIL of the Biochemistry Department with a CGPA of 4.93 (First Class Honours) has emerged the overall best graduating student at the ongoing Lagos State University Convocation Ceremonies.

The number of fresh graduands to bag the baccalaureate have been pegged to 8,711 as 192 emerge First Class.


It was gathered that a total of 11, 917 will be graduating in the 2023/2024 Academic Session, among which 8,711 students are graduating with first degree programmes from the University.


192 students made the First Class honours and 17 with Unclassified(MBBS/BDS) Degrees. 3076 graduated with Second Class Upper Division, 4397 with Second Class Lower Division, 990 with Third Class and 39 with a pass.


4. The overall best graduating student for the 2023/2024 academic session is NWOSU ISIOMA SYBIL of the Biochemistry Department with a CGPA of 4.93 (First Class Honours)


5. A total of 971 Diploma students are graduating this year. 123 students graduated with Distinctions, 550 have Upper credits,287 have Lower credits and 11 graduated with a pass


6. The 28th Convocation Lecture will be delivered by Honourable Minister of Education Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa while Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, National Chairman of All Progressives Congress and former Governor of Kano State will serve as the chairman of the occasion


7. 2,235 Postgraduate students are graduating this year. 302 with Postgraduate Diplomas, 1,132 Academic with Masters degrees, 639 Professional with Masters degrees. 125 have Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) degrees and 37 have Professional doctoral Degrees


8. The Senate of Lagos State University will confer Honorary Doctorate degrees on Brigadier General Buba Marwa Rtd. Chairman National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and former Military Governor of Lagos State AND Otunba Olufemi Olusegun Pedro, former Deputy Governor of Lagos State.


9. One of the University’s long serving and esteemed academic, Professor Joseph Abayomi Olagunju will be elevated to the rank of Distinguished Professor.


10. A new Faculty, Faculty of Computing has been established, the 5th under the administration of Prof. Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM.
