*THE 2017 EMERITUS PROFESSOR O. O. AKINKUGBE NATIONAL ESSAY COMPETITION FOR NIGERIAN YOUTHS*
*Topic: The Women of Nigeria: Problems, Panacea and Prospects.*
*Submission Deadline*: January 28, 2017.
*Prizes*:
First place - *#70,000*
Second place - *#50,000*
Third place - *#20,000*
In addition to the above prizes, all three winners will each be awarded an honorary plaque and their essays will be published in *The Ibadan Declaration on Women of Nigeria.* The best essayist would be granted the opportunity to present his/her essay at the main event of the Akinkugbe Annual Guest Lecture.
All prizes will be awarded at the main event.
*Eligibility*: Nigerian youths between the ages of 18 and 35 years (male and female genders).
*About the Competition*:
*The 2017 Emeritus Professor O. O. Akinkugbe National Essay Competition for Youths* is part of *Alexander Brown Hall*'s commemoration of International Women's Day in March, 2017. The essay competition is *aimed at initiating an interrogation into the peculiar grass root issues facing women of Nigeria.*
Interested applicants are hereby required to write an essay on the topic focusing on a particular aspect. The sub themes include *Violence against Women*
*Child Marriage*
*Women and the Economy*
*Women and Politics*
*Women's Rights and Gender Equality*
*Education of the Girl Child*
*Health Issues Affecting the Women of Nigeria*
Amongst others.
Each participant is expected to discuss the problems women face in the particular area of interest, the panacea and prospects.
The essays are to be submitted via email to *akinkugbeessaycompetition@gmail.com* alongside a folder containing the profile, address and a formal means of identification of the participant.
*Rules*:
*1*. Essays submitted later than 11.59PM on January 28, 2017 shall not be accepted.
*2.* Essays must be original works of participants.
*3*. Proper citations must be done for Every excerpt sourced.
*4*. Essays must proffer creative and realistic solutions to identified problems.
*5*. The essays will be awarded for content, style, originality and feasibility of the panacea.
*6*. Essays must be typed in double line spacing and must not exceed 1,500 words.
*7*. Font type must be TimesNewRoman with 12 points font size.
