LASU Senate confirms two profs for Deputy Vice Chancellor race, announces election dates

Senate of the Lagos State University, LASU has at its Special Meeting held virtually on Monday, 16th December, 2024, confirmed to academics as candidates to jostle for the position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Orangesprings Blog understands.
The Senate recalled that at its 316th Statutory Meeting held on Thursday, 28th November, 2024, it had approved the schedule of activities for election to the position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) and invited applications from interested professors for the position.
According to the communique obtained Sunday by our reporter, the Senate, during consideration, noted that:
i) Two (2) professors had shown interest to vie for the position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) and submitted their applications to the official email address of the Vice-Chancellor as required.
ii) The professors who showed interest are:
a). Prof. Oseni Taiwo AFISI, Department of Philosophy, Faculty of Arts;
b). Prof. Maruf Suraqat
ANIMASHAUN, Department of Foreign Languages, Faculty
of Arts; and
iii) Both professors are eligible to contest for the position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics).
Also, the Senate noted that, in line with the approved schedule of election of Deputy Vice-Chancellor
(Academics), other electioneering activities will take place as presented below:
SCHEDULE OF ACTIVITIES
1) Monday, 13th January 2025: Display of Voters’ List (List of Statutory Members of Senate) at Senate Secretariat, College, Faculty Offices, Schools, and Senate Whatsapp Platform.
2) Monday, 27th January 2025: Physical Election at the Special Senate Meeting.
Time: 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
3) Monday, 27th January 2025: Final.announcement of results on election of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics).
Senate, after due deliberations, accepted Professor Oseni Taiwo AFISI and Professor Maruf Suraqat ANIMASHAUN as valid candidates for the position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), having ascertained their willingness and interest to contest for the position.
