LASU unions insist on salary harmonisation, threaten prolonged strike

The Joint Action Committee of all staff unions in Lagos State University has resolved to continue its ongoing strike action until the university management addresses its demands on salary harmonisation and increment.

The unions, comprising the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, National Association of Academic Technologists, and Non-Academic Staff Union, rejected the new salary structure proposed by the university management.

In a statement signed by the chairmen and secretaries of the unions, they demanded that the university management provide a template for the new salary structure to enable them to determine its financial implications.

The unions also demanded that the December salary and 2024 end-of-year bonus be paid based on the existing salary structure, considering the upcoming festivities.

The statement read in part, “The ongoing strike action should subsist pending provision of the template of the new salary structure that effectively and accurately capture salary harmonisation, 25%/35% salary increment and the new national minimum wage in line with the unions’ demand.”

The unions warned that the strike action would continue until their demands were met, urging members to remain resolute and committed to the cause.
