Professor Bans Use of Laptops to Enhance Learning Process

Image
A professor of law, Professor Darren Rosenblum at the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University has banned the use of laptops and iPads in her classroom to improve the teaching and learning process. The Law and Education expert asserts that the use of screens by students has greatly impeded and distrupted the teacher-learner connection. Her explanation is captured and published by The New York Times.  When I started teaching, I assumed my “fun” class, sexuality and the law, full of contemporary controversy, would prove gripping to the students. One day, I provoked them with a point against marriage equality, and the response was a slew of laptops staring back. The screens seemed to block our classroom connection. Then, observing a senior colleague’s contracts class, I spied one student shopping for half the class. Another was surfing Facebook. Both took notes when my colleague spoke, but resumed the rest of their lives instead of listening to classmates. Lapt...

ARTS: Disney's Cartoon Illustrator, Tyrus Wong dies at 106

Image
Wong  A Chinese-born American artist and cartoon illustrator, Tyrus Wong died December 30th 2016 and there has been slot of reactions around the world.  MARGALIT FOX from New York Times reports DECEMBER 30, 2016 When Walt Disney’s “Bambi” opened in 1942, critics praised its spare, haunting visual style, vastly different from anything Disney had done before. But what they did not know was that the film’s striking appearance had been created by a Chinese immigrant artist, who took as his inspiration the landscape paintings of the Song dynasty. The extent of his contribution to “Bambi,” which remains a high-water mark for film animation, would not be widely known for decades. Like the film’s title character, the artist, Tyrus Wong, weathered irrevocable separation from his mother — and, in the hope of making a life in America, incarceration, isolation and rigorous interrogation — all when he was still a child. In the years that followed, he endured poverty, discr...

A FEW LESSON FROM 2016 BY TOLU POPOOLA

#TRENDY #Author_Tolu_Popoola writes : A Few lessons I learnt in 2016: 1) Never give up on your dreams/goals/ambitions. They may not happen how or when you want, or even take the path you expected, but you will get there eventually. Enjoy the journey. Celebrate every little step you take that gets you closer to your goals. 2) You have power over your thoughts, and what you allow to settle into your mind. You will manifest the things you constantly think about. So, filter out what you don't want to see. Filter out negativity. Only fix your thoughts on the things that are good, lovely, positive, and filled with gratitude. 3) Do not let fear stop you from doing anything. Ever. 4) Stay calm. Panicking doesn't help. Scrambling around in a flurry doesn't mean anything productive is being achieved. Staying calm gives you clarity and control, to handle every situation better. 5) You have limited time and energy. Direct them ONLY to those things that are important. 6) ...
