Adebobola emerges 35th LASUSU President in keenly contested poll

Adebobola Ayomide Stephen, popularly called Joldie on campus has emerged the 35th President of the Lagos State University Students' Union.


Adebobola was declared winner of the presidential ,,,?election after polling 1717 votes, out of 4845 votes cast.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, on Friday congratulated all the winners in the just concluded Lagos State University Students Union (LASUSU) elections, which held on Thursday, 8th and Friday, 9th August 2024. 


The Vice Chancellor congratulated, in particular, Comrade Adebobola Ayomide Stephen, popularly known as Joldie, and Hon. Adedeji Adeniyi, popularly known as Energetic, on their elections as the 35th President-Elect of LASUSU and Speaker-Elect of the Students Parliamentary Council, respectively.


The Vice Chancellor noted that the process that produced the new students leaders was free, fair, and credible, paving the way for an outcome that is acceptable to all. She assures, as earlier promised, to work with the newly elected leaders to ensure that the interest of the world-class students of the university is protected at all times. 


Furthermore, Prof. Olatunji-Bello commended all the other aspirants who fell short for showing the spirit of sportsmanship by maturely conducting themselves and their supporters throughout the electioneering process, as well as accepting the outcome of the elections in good faith as the ultimate will of the students. She avers that win or lose, they are all winners. 


The professor of Physiology also commended members of the Independent Electoral Committee for organising a free, fair, and credible election. She states that posterity would be kind to them for giving the students an election that truly reflects the will of the majority. 


Finally, she appreciated members of the university who played a key part in the success of the election, especially the Director, DICT, Prof. Toyin Enikuomehin and his team, the Acting Dean, Students Affairs Division, Dr. Abiodun Fatai-Abatan and his team, men of the Security Unit and officers of the Centre for Information and Public Relations who were critical to the success of the process. 


She concluded that with the successful conduct of the election, LASU continues to show the way for how electronic voting process can significantly enhance the credibility of elections in Nigeria.
