LASU admissions not for sale; varsity warns parents, racketeers

Gideon Toluwalope Adonai   The Lagos State University, (LASU) Ojo, has warned the general public and parents who are offering cash to racketeers to work admission to their favour that its admission is not for sale! The statement was issued while refuting the claims of admission racketeering in the ongoing 2025/2026 admission process. The university clarified that, despite receiving an unprecedented number of applications this academic session, only 20% of the over 70,000 applicants will be offered admission. There have been claims suggesting that LASU is favouring the highest bidders for admission, which the university administration has firmly rejected. LASU Senate asks students to vacate hostels amid strike talks with staff unions

LASU secures NUC's endorsement for two new courses

The Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, has been granted approval by the National Universities Commission (NUC) to establish two new full-time undergraduate programmes. The two new courses, according to a Friday statement issued by the Deputy Registrar/Coordinator will effective from the 2025/2026 academic session. The programmes are: . B.A. Ed. Music Education; and . B.Ed. Social Studies and Civic Education. A CIPPR, LASU, top official, Thomas-Onashile Oluwayemi made it known. The Lagos State University, (LASU) has announced withdrawn its bulletin published Tuesday where it stated that applications were open to suitably qualified candidates in the 2025/2026 Admission Screening Exercise (Regular Students), for candidates seeking admission via UTME (100 level) and DIRECT Entry. UTME: JAMB's data portrays 2025 performance best compared to last 13 years

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released candidates’ performance data for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), showing that the 2025 results are the best in the last 13 years. This follows issues of technical glitches and complaints by the candidates that forced the Board to organise a resit exam, the results of which were released on Sunday. According to the data, 17,025, representing 0.88% of the candidates that sat for the UTME in 2025, scored 300 and above,e and this came as the highest percentage since the Computer-Based Test (CBT) was introduced in 2013. BREAKING: JAMB server hosting 2025 UTME results has been hacked

  Twenty suspects have been arrested for hacking the 2025 Computer-based test examinations conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). The suspects were nabbed by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Police Force, in Abuja, The suspects are part of a syndicate believed to have over 100 persons, who specialize in hacking the computer servers of examination bodies like JAMB and the National Examinations Council (NECO). Study Abroad: Trump bars Harvard University from enrolling international students

The Trump administration revoked Harvard University’s ability to enroll international students in its escalating battle with the Ivy League school, saying thousands of current students must transfer to other schools or leave the country. The Department of Homeland Security announced the action Thursday, saying Harvard has created an unsafe campus environment by allowing “anti-American, pro-terrorist agitators” to assault Jewish students on campus. It also accused Harvard of coordinating with the Chinese Communist Party, saying it hosted and trained members of a Chinese paramilitary group as recently as 2024. “This means Harvard can no longer enroll foreign students and existing foreign students must transfer or lose their legal status,” the agency said in a statement. LASU hits records high in NUC assessment

The National Universities Commission (NUC) Resource Assessment teams have evaluated two courses at Lagos State University(LASU). The courses are Bachelor of Arts(Education) in Music Education and Bachelor of Education in Social Studies and Civic Education. While the teams gave the university a pass mark, they urged the university management to make further improvements. 2025 UTME: House of Reps faction demands Oloyede's resignation, results cancellation

  The South-East Faction of the 10th House of Representatives has called for the resignation of the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Ishaq Oloyede, over the technical glitch recorded in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination. It also called for the examination to be completely cancelled and a new date fixed for the exercise across the country. BREAKING: JAMB admits to server errors in 2025 UTME, pledges rescheduling

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board on Wednesday finally admitted to errors which affected the performance of students during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination. The Registrar of the Board, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede admitted to this during an ongoing press briefing in Abuja. “What should have been a moment of joy has changed due to one or two errors,” Oloyede said. The UTME is a critical prerequisite for admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria. It tests candidates in four subjects, including the compulsory Use of English, with the other three drawn from their proposed field of study. Of the 1.9 million candidates who sat the UTME, over 1.5 million reportedly scored below 200 out of the maximum 400 marks, raising concerns across the education sector. According to the examination body, a total of 1,955,069 results were processed, out of which only 4,756 candidates (0.24 per cent) scored 320 and above, considered top-tier performance, while 7,658 candidates (0.3...

A former Dean of the Faculty of Arts, UNILAG, Prof. Falaiye is the current Director, Institute of African and Diaspora Studies, UNILAG (IADS-UNILAG), and Chairman of UNILAG Housing Committee. He was elected via an electronic voting process with 210 out of 252 (83%) votes at the Statutory Meeting of Senate held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025. How over 31,000 students fail 2024 WASSCE in Lagos despite heavy funding of ₦1.5bn by govt

The Lagos State Government has revealed that 31,596 students from public secondary schools failed the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), sparking concerns over the state of education in Nigeria’s commercial capital. This disclosure was made during the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing on Thursday in Alausa, Ikeja, where the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Alli-Balogun, presented the education sector’s scorecard under the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat.
